[Ah, the moment he spots the shock of pink, Kyojuro knows he's in for it. He smiles his brightest and best as he backs toward the chair, then sits down just as he's told.]

I did not expect you to be so hard at work! Perhaps you did not need the yarn I brought you after all — you seem to have found your own ways to keep busy!

[On its face, there's nothing at all surprising about Akaza's statement. He'd put out a netbook request for ideas, after all. Still, the fact that he had persisted beyond that initial effort, and had even seemed to improve is... remarkably touching. He leans back in his chair, brows lifted.]

Well then! Maybe I ask what today's meal shall be?

Nothing. Don't worry about it. [he's been knitting squares then unraveling them because they're not good enough, then reknitting them again. etc.

Some things from the shop. Cured meats and cheeses, dried fruits, nuts. I'm making rice.

[those are all... foods, individually, though they might not form a meal together. at least he got some variation in this time...]

[Kyojuro Rengoku doesn't pout per se, but he does look very, very disappointed at that. He makes a mental note to pursue the line of questioning later. Perhaps with a little more time and practice, Akaza might have something to tell him about?

In any case, his head tilts. He leans forward in his chair, careful of his wounds, to get a better look.]

Is it all meant to go in the rice?

[There's no judgement there, only curiosity. He knows better than most, just how much cuisine can reveal about a person and their upbringing. He wonders if perhaps there's evidence of Akaza's own background in that which he's selected.

[akaza's eyes narrow at the strain, but he doesn't chide kyojuro, as this minimal movement is apparently acceptable to him.]

No. Right now, I'm just trying to get the rice correct. It's versatile, so I want a good foundation before I get into more complicated things. Everything else is just for nutrients.

[Which only makes him curious. Even his own counterparts tended to err on the side of... not really giving a damn about a balanced plate. He might even be one of those. What sort of man was Akaza, then, to have need for that sort of knowledge.]

Be that as it may, you had Shiratori volunteer to bring meals instead of yourself, yet here you are doing the lions share of the work. [Kyojuro's grin grows a little toothy, teasing even.] Are you truly growing that fond of me, Akaza?

[his brows furrow again pretty quickly. akaza isn't about to admit to kyojuro that he asked aira to teach him how to cook, that would be far too tender.]

[He watches the way those brows draw together, curious for approximately two seconds, before Akaza's words alleviate any suspicions he might have had. It's guilt, it always seems to come back to that. It's not as if he doesn't understand why Akaza feels like that, all things considered, but...]

I see! In that case - how long do you plan on punishing yourself for that happened?

[As usual, his tone is even. There isn't an accusation there, but plain, unabashed curiosity.]
