[akaza's shock is yet again plain on his face, as his alien hands are taken by kyojuro's malleable, human ones. he stares down at them in both wonder and worry.

he knows better than to promise protection. he knows better. every single person he's ever promised that to has died. yes, kyojuro has already died, at his hand, no less, but the idea of failing again is almost too much for him to bear. he could swear he feels sweat on his temple, something that's been entirely foreign to him for centuries.

his throat feels tight. he swallows thickly, and finally chokes out a laugh.]

The "man," huh? Careful, Kyojuro, I might think you like me, after all.

[it's just one night. they're locked in his inn room. surely it will be manageable... surely...]

[As Akaza stares at their intertwined fingers, Kyojuro can't help but worry that he's made a mistake somehow. His offer earlier had only been out of necessity, perhaps obligation from a man driven into guilt. This is different — a step too far into companionable.

But when Akaza doesn't pull away, when he decides to speak once more, Kyojuro finds himself quelling those doubts within his head. He flashes a grin, one that comes just that little bit easier.]

You are growing on me! It turns out when you accept me as I am, you are actually quite tolerable!

[Kyojuro considers the offer for just a few moments. It isn't lost on him that he's still gripping Akaza's hands. Hell, maybe that's why he says what he does.]

It is a deal! And if you truly find you are still worried in the morning, then you can carry me there.

[There is no fight, no resistance when Akaza finally deems Kyojuro to be too much. If nothing else, both the distraction and the conversation have bought him enough time to be able to stand properly. He doesn't replace his uniform, but instead aims for the bathroom.]

That must be quite convenient, you know. I ruptured my own fighting a demon once! It took me nearly six weeks to recover fully.

[If you can imagine, he was even louder during that time, too.]

[He did manage to break a sweat in the last few minutes after all. To say nothing of the cold one that he broke into upon Akaza's injuries.]

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me.

[he shrugs as kyojuro moves to wash up. there's really nothing a demon needs to be "comfortable," and akaza... doesn't exactly have hobbies or interests that haven't already been made obvious. and he can't really train in here without breaking things, so... he'll just take up a post sitting in the corner.]

[Kyojuro isn't one to take his time with creature comforts. Honestly, having access to running water is pretty much a novelty to him, as are the soaps and hair products available to him. He's thriving, his skin is glowing. Absolutely incredible.

Anyway, he comes out of the bathroom not long after with a towel draped around his shoulders, his hair in his face like a wet dog, no shirt, and wearing an obscenely fluffy pair of pajama pants. He did not pick these out. Heimr shoved them at him when he was looking around. He also has a pair of much more casual clothes laying around, but why put those on when he can wear his uniform. Duh.]

Making yourself at home, I see! [His laugh is almost as warm as the steam that floods out of the bathroom behind him. He wastes no time in pattering over to the bed.] So, are you going to stare at me while I sleep all night, then? I imagine that may be quite boring!

Suit yourself! [He towels up his hair one last time, thoroughly fluffing it up to hell. He really do be looking ridiculous.

After that, though, the towel is draped off the bedpost. With a very large (and loud) yawn, Kyojuro settles himself onto the bed. He doesn't quite lay down, instead propping his back up against the headboard. He's also on top of the blankets rather than under them.]

You ought to take up reading! Or any sort of hobby. [A pause.] You could also consider sleeping! I understand that is how the Kamado girl is able to keep her hunger at bay!

Sleep may not be on your mind this evening, but come morning, it may be worth considering. I imagine you have a large chunk of the daylight hours to find a way to make use of! [Akaza may be convinced that Kyojuro won't put up much of a fight, but it isn't like the demon can do much in kind. The sun would sooner destroy him than anything the Forest could throw at him.

Still, he and Akaza seem to be of a similar mind. He'd only brought up food offhandedly, but now that it's present within his thoughts, he can't help but worry. Not of the residents, he is making a point to trust Akaza at his word, after all!]

We will find a way for you to eat. I will not have you wasting away and suffering on my watch!

Well, I do have one lead, actually! [He motions with his head toward the woods.] There is a carnival happening somewhere out there. My understanding is that the offerings are rather... perturbing. I do not know if it is meant to be just a crude and grotesque imitation, or if the offerings are truly made of human. I do lean toward the latter, though. [The carnies he had witnessed in the woods, after all, had been preparing to eat his family.]

It is perhaps not ethically sourced, but it would be a temporary solution until we can find something else.
